The 'Captain America: Civil War 4-Pane' meme, often referred to as 'Captain America vs Iron Man,' consists of a vertical four-panel series of images. These panels are drawn from a climactic scene in the 2012 Marvel superhero film 'The Avengers' where Captain America and Iron Man are depicted in a tense conversation. Typically, this format is used to illustrate humorous disagreements or rivalries, with each character's stance capturing opposing views in any given debate.
The meme's inspiration traces back to October 28th, 2014, at the San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel producer Kevin Feige initially announced a film titled 'Captain America 3: Serpent Society' during Marvel's cinematic keynote. However, this was a ruse as Feige soon corrected the title to 'Captain America: Civil War,' and brought out actors Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) who performed an in-character dispute as a live teaser, which can be seen in this video. By January 2015, excitement for the movie had escalated, coinciding with the creation of the four-panel meme, which pre-emptively used a scene from the original 'Avengers' movie, further revisited in this clip.[1]
