AboutWhat does the meme depict?

The 'Hail Hydra' meme features an image macro of two characters, usually from popular media, with one whispering into the other's ear. The phrase 'Hail Hydra' is superimposed onto the image, deriving from the fictional terrorist organization Hydra in the Marvel Universe. This meme format typically portrays the whisperer influencing or converting the listener with the secretive and insidious motto of Hydra, creating a humorous subversion of various innocent or trust-based scenarios depicted in the original images.

OriginWho did it first?

'Hail Hydra' is a salute from the fictional terrorist organization Hydra within the Marvel Universe, commonly used in their motto: 'Hail Hydra! Immortal Hydra! We shall never be destroyed! Cut off one limb and two more shall take its place! We serve the Supreme Hydra, as the world shall soon serve us!' The phrase debuted in 'Strange Tales #135' in August 1965. The meme itself began to circulate after the release of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' in April 2014. Shortly after this, on April 6th, the first meme using this format was tweeted by Kevin M on Twitter (now X), depicting the Sesame Street character Ernie whispering 'Hail Hydra' to Bert.[1]
