The meme began when Apple Jax, a forum user on Something Awful, uploaded a picture on January 1st, 2011, of a cat named Emilio belonging to her boyfriend, Daniel Vecchitto. The photo, taken after Emilio received a tie as a Christmas gift from an Etsy shop called Whisker Kisses, was featured in a thread titled 'PYF Cat Pictures (it rises again).' This image of Emilio in a tie was first reposted on Reddit on January 4th, with the title 'Business Cat.' Within a few hours, it appeared on MemeGenerator and then in another Reddit thread titled 'Business Cat ain't no joke.' This marked the first instance where the image was used as an image macro, captioned 'No LOL here, Get your ass in my office.'[1]
